President's Message | January 2024

Francisco Laurindo, MD, University of São Paulo

Many things are going on at the same time in our Society!

First, we are going through the final days of receiving suggestions for symposia and plenary speakers at our upcoming SfRBM Conference in November in Savannah. I trust this meeting will keep and foster the transformative mood, friendly interactions, diversity at all levels, and support for the young investigators that are at the core of our mission. We hope everyone will save the best works to be presented at our symposia by emerging investigators. Again, it is never enough to point out that the involvement of you all is what makes our meeting so special. We count on that!

In addition, we have the upcoming Regional Redox Symposium 2024, "Redox Pathophysiology in Health and Disease" at LSU Shreveport, March 7-8. We hope you can attend this interesting meeting and get inspired to organize other regional meetings as well.

Before we go on, an important reminder to everyone: for those who have not done so, please take the time to renew your SfRBM dues for 2024!

By this time, you all have received the Needs Assessment Survey. Your participation in this survey, which has now been assembled, will be an essential and crucial piece to support our discussions at the upcoming SfRBM Strategic Meeting in March. This meeting will congregate our leadership representatives to set directions for the present and future of our Society and we hope the guidelines derived from these discussions will illuminate our actions for the foreseeable future. Of course, we welcome further suggestions and comments about anything you feel can make us better.

Finally, a very important issue: The calls for leadership nominations are open until June 1st, 2024, for elections this summer. Please consider applying for one of the following available positions: President-Elect, VP Education & Professional Development, VP Research & Scientific Excellence, Council Member (7 positions), and Trainee Council (3 positions). This is a great opportunity for that extra step to engage in our community.

Certainly, our Society will only get stronger as everyone's commitment to make it better with their creativity, expertise, and support to formative activities!
