THE ROLE OF DIET-INDUCED MACROPHAGE REPROGRAMMING IN VASCULAR DISEASES AND OBESITY

The Asmis Lab at Wake Forest School of Medicine is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Department of Internal Medicine. The NIH-funded projects will study the roles of monoamine oxidase A and thiol redox signaling in the activation and reprogramming of macrophages and microglia associated with metabolic diseases (Ahn et al. Nat. Commun. 13; 790 (2022); Kim, H.S. et al. Scientific Reports. 6, 34223 (2016); Short, J.D. et al. Frontiers in Immunology 22; 958 (2017); Ahn, Y.J. et al. J.Nutri.Biochem. Epub (2020).

The ideal candidates would be highly motivated, learn quickly, and have a good degree of independence. Individuals should have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology or physiology, a strong record of scientific publications and good oral and written communication skills. Experience in the isolation and culture of human and murine monocytes and macrophages, a background in transgenic mouse models and surgeries, expertise in redox biology and strong skills in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry are preferred. Additional experience in murine atherosclerosis models, single-cell Western blotting techniques and epigenetics will be helpful but is not required.
