The laboratory of Dr. Peter Vitiello at Sanford Research in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in enzymatic regulation of thiol signaling in the context of lung development and pulmonary disease. Research in the Vitiello lab is targeted at understanding how atmospheric chemicals alter molecular networks in lung epithelial cells via cysteine oxidation. To determine the role of redox signaling during lung development and disease pathogenesis in response to oxidative perturbations, the laboratory utilizes a variety of genetic, molecular, proteomic, and cellular approaches. Fellows will receive extensive training with transgenic mouse models for temporal and spatial regulation of gene expression, animal models of lung injury, lung physiology and anatomy, and redox biochemistry and proteomics. Candidates are expected to (i) have sufficient disciplinary training to support experimental design and technical proficiency (see qualifications below), (ii) maintain and breed rodent colonies, (iii) be part of a motivated laboratory team and collaborative department, (iv) possess excellent communication skills (both written and spoken English), and (v) demonstrate an excellent track record of productivity and hard work. Preference will be given to candidates proficient with animal maintenance, handling, and dissection, cell culture, genetic manipulations (CRISPR, viral transduction, etc), real-time PCR, protein biochemistry, proteomics, or fluorescent microscopy.
